Heidi Montag says she has empathy for Renee Zellweger.
The 28-year-old television personality addressed the 45-year-old actress' appearance in an interview with Extra on Thursday. Zellweger sparked plastic surgery rumors after looking drastically different at Elle's "Women in Hollywood" event Tuesday, but later asserted she had merely aged.
Montag is infamous for undergoing 10 plastic surgeries in one day in 2010, and said she would understand if Zellweger did alter her appearance.
"I don't know if Renee Zellweger just aged like she said," she related. "For me, when I see people who look totally different, I have an empathy. I feel like I know why at least I did it, and it kind of brings it back to that time in my life. It's just, I feel for them."
"I hope it's the right decision for them," she said of stars who choose to have surgery. "I hope they feel good about it. That's the most important thing. My heart goes out to them ... It's a hard, life-changing decision when anyone does it. Obviously, they're unhappy with something. I hope that they [find] their happiness."
Montag said she had to develop thick skin to cope with public criticism of her transformation. The reality star underwent breast reduction surgery last October, and made her first post-surgery red carpet appearance Thursday.
