Information Affairs Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al-Hammadi said at the post-Cabinet press conference today that the military agreement signed recently by Bahrain and the UK is part of decades-long outstanding relations between both countries.
He added the agreement provides military facilities for BDF base at Mina Salman as part of joint action and distinguished cooperation relations Bahrain is building with major friendly countries. He pointed out that the agreement has also to do with regional and energy security as the Arabian Gulf is considered the artery of oil and gas exported by countries in the region. He said a joint statement was issued by Bahrain and the UK when signing the agreement.
Concerning Bahraini media attaches in some embassies abroad, he stressed the importance of their role in unraveling the real situation in Bahrain and debunking fallacies being spread by some to distort the kingdom's image. He noted that the experience will be evaluated to work out the needed mechanisms to develop it for more effective communication with international media institutions.
As for the national water strategy, the minister affirmed that the issue has been under study by the government for years, pointing out the Water Resources Council which was set up by a cabinet resolution. He also pointed out the role of the Electricity and Water Authority and the Municipalities Ministry in tackling water-related issues.
