Minister of Local Development Adel Labib said the ministry has allocated 2.78 billion pounds to replace street lamps nationwide.
In statements on Thursday, Labib added that the lamps will be replaced with other lamps that save more energy and are more efficient.
He pointed out that there are 3.89 million street lamps nationwide.
Electricity and finance ministries and Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) are coordinating to create a database for the street lamps nationwide, the minister further said.
The replacement process will take place over six stages.
