President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is giving special attention to the poor and low-income segments, State Minister for Urban Development Laila Iskandar said.
The government had started a plan to develop unsafe slums nationwide by removing old buildings and constructing new ones with the aim of ending the phenomenon within three years, Iskandar said during a celebration held at Al Qanater prison.
During the celebration, 42 indebted women, who have been released from jail under the president's initiative "Egypt without indebted women", were offered aid boxes from the president.
