The work at the new capital has already started, announced Housing Minister Mostafa Madbouli.
During a visit to Minya governorate on Saturday, the minister said underground pipelines to route water from the 10th of Ramadan City to the new capital are being established.
He added that 50,000 housing units will be built as the first stage of the project, noting that all the housing units will be completed within three years.
The proposed new capital of Egypt was announced by Madbouli at the Egypt Economic Development Conference in March.
