Edinson Cavani London - Arabstoday It seems that Edinson Cavani, Napoli’s highly rated Uruguayan centre forward, will be the hottest transfer topic of the next few weeks. Chelsea’s name has been repeatedly linked with the player over the last six months, with reports coming out of London this morning that the player’s representatives met with club officials late last week to open talks. Although already a target for former manager Andre Villas-Boas, Cavani impressed Chelsea during the Champions League round of 16 clash, scoring in the first leg in Naples. It seems that a £30 million bid is being prepared for a player who has found the net 27 times this season – 18 times in the league. Chelsea are certainly in need of goals: the problems of Fernando Torres are well-documented, Didier Drogba is more than likely to be heading for the riches of the Chinese league next year and Daniel Sturridge hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential yet. As we reported earlier in the month, though, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis doesn’t need to sell and has warned off clubs by insisting Cavani isn’t for sale – unless for “crazy” money. “Right now everyone wants Cavani and [teammate Ezequiel] Lavezzi but we are not looking to sell,” he said. “We are not using our players for the transfer market. But if some crazy guy wants to put down £100 million, then, maybe.” Liverpool apparently tried to sign the player in the summer, with director of football Damien Comolli hoping to pair Cavani with compatriot Luis Suarez, while Real Madrid and Manchester City are also keen.
