Dozens of people were killed and injured in a bomb explosion in Northern Sinai, official sources have said.
A bomb was detonated inside a mosque in the village of Al Rawdah in downtown Bir Al Abed in Northern Sinai during the Friday prayers, according to reports.
Eyewitnesses said that the militants who detonated the bomb drove vehicles and besieged the mosque during the deadly attack.
The reports said that the attackers also opened fire on ambulances to prevent them from reaching the explosion site and attend to the injured. Three days of mourning were announced.
Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said that Bahrain stood fully with Egypt.
“May God rest the souls of the Sinai prayer martyrs in peace. We stand with our sister Egypt against criminal terrorism,” he said on his Twitter account.
