A total of eight militants were killed in an Afghan forces' special operation in eastern province of Logar, a local official said Sunday.
The raid was conducted early Sunday morning in Karwar district, and among those killed in the raid was a Taliban shadow district chief, named Mukhtar, provincial governor spokesman Salim Salah told Xinhua.
Some arms and ammunition were also seized during the operation, according to the spokesman.
Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants as Afghans have been witnessing a surge in attacks by Taliban and Islamic State (IS) militants across the country.
