A mother and her four children were killed early Saturday when heavy rains toppled their home in the small town of Zitlala in Mexico's southern state of Guerrero.
The house collapsed around 2:30 a.m. following a steady downpour Friday night that soaked at least one of the mud-and-stone walls, weakening the structure, the state civil protection agency said in a statement.
The agency did not identify the woman, saying only that she was 30 and her children were 14, 12, eight and six. All were sleeping at the time.
Rescue workers, along with local police and neighbors, were working to recover the bodies from the rubble.
Zitlala is home to 16,000 inhabitants.
