There are times when get so bogged down by the rigmaroles of life that we want to escape into another world, even if it is just for a few hours. We look for ways to ‘get away’ and that’s when a day or even few hours spent at a spa can turn out to be a real blessing; a place where we can relax and revitalise keeping our worries and concerns at bay.

Whether it is the need to unwind, purge our worries and stress, or the need to re-balance our lifestyle, most spas in Muscat provide a range of services with one purpose in mind — to help bring calm and comfort to our body, mind, and soul. Walk inside any one of the spas in town, and you would soon be overwhelmed by the serenity of the place. The fragrance of the oils and the little candles ensconced in corners would make you feel invigorated and relaxed. But what makes a spa visit a must when it comes to our health? 

Talking about the health benefits of spa treatments, the spa director at CHI at Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa, says that of the many benefits, the first and the most important one is that it helps one to de-stress, and water therapy is a great way to release the stress from the body.

“Water therapy is an old therapy and baths help to reduce fatigue, promote wound healing, and combat low spirit. European physician sustain the use of water healing, where hot and cold water stimulate our circulation system,” she says.

“Apart from the usual spa treatment and massages, facilities like steam, sauna, Jacuzzi, hydro pool, hot and cold bath, help to release stress like body pain,” she adds.

A professional body massage is a great stress buster, says the director, as it calms the mind and a great way to relieve oneself from body aches and pains. Highlighting on the importance of massages, the spa director adds that “a good massage releases muscle tension, improves quality of sleep, helps in blood circulation, and also stimulates the lymphatic system”. And while massages and spa treatments help in relieving the pain and calming the mind they are a great way to lose weight too. “Some of the treatments like cellulite massage help to reduce cellulite but for this one needs to take a course of 10 at least," she adds.
