A maid left her sponsor a note apologising for stealing three pairs of designer shoes and cash before absconding, Dubai Criminal Court was told.
The 26-year-old Ethiopian denied theft charges when she appeared in court.
In 2012 the maid stole the Burberry shoes, worth Dh4,750, and Dh300 in cash from her Emirati sponsor’s home in Al Qusais and fled, but not before leaving the note on the doorstep.
It read: "I’m sorry, I have to go for an unknown place, you are good and kind people but I can’t work for you."
Her 31-year-old employer called police after finding the note.
"It was around 3pm when my family told me the maid was not to be found anywhere," he said, adding the maid stole the shoes from his sister’s room and cash from his.
The woman was arrested this year. A verdict will be issued on February 28.
