Egyptian activist Magda Adly Cairo – Marwa Abdel Hamid The new Egyptian Constitution draft will take women back to dark ages, activist Magda Adly announced in her interview with Arabstoday. The activist said: “The Constitution is a violation of women’s rights in itself. It does not represent Egyptian women – about 60 feminist and human rights groups and associations have raised questions about the status of women in this constitution. She emphasised the new status of Egypt: “Egypt is a modern democracy, all citizens should be equal before the law regardless of their sex or religion. “The Constitution should guarantee respect to all Egyptians, politically and economically, as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Right. “The government should also support women and eliminate all sorts of discrimination against them. Nothing supports women’s right in the draft Constitution,” Magda Adly has been a human right activist since Nasser was in power. She has fought for human rights and women’s right since the beginning. She joined the Nasserist party when she was a teenager. She supports the Palestinian cause. She works as a anaesthesiologist.
