Algerian craft woman, Baia Susi came up with a way to make a daily handbag, in attempt to get rid of the harming and ugly plastic bags, which harm the environment.
She said during an interview with “Arab Today” that, she entered this field in 2010, gathering all different plastic bags and turn them into “frails” of different sizes to be used in daily life. She started with small attempts like, bread baskets, mobile holders and kids’ pencil cases.
She explained these handbags process, by closing them and covering them with plastic threads, which she uses to form shopping bags of different sizes and colors.
She confirmed that her handmade products were great success and she came first in the Traditional Handcraft salon in Oran province, west of Algeria in 2012. She also promoted her products outside Algeria, and many foreigners were impressed by their validity, and how they do not harm public health.
She works hard to pass this craft to Algerian girls to protect it from extinction, and help to reduce unemployment rate, along with protecting the environment.
