Algerian weddings designer, Madi Nasira created fashionable ways to design the “basket” that goes with the bride and her friends to the bridal bathroom before the weeding. This bathroom is a traditional ritual in Algeria. She said in a statement to “Arab Today” that, this basket is a profound tradition that remained alive through the years and this basket along with the traditional wedding dress are necessary in Algerian weddings until this day. The basket contains all of the bathroom supplies. She uses embroidered silk to decorate the basket, using the color orange, fuchsia embroidered with gold or silver threads, and all other colors that suit the bride in her big day. She also designs the bridal “dish” presented by the groom parents to the bride on the engagement day. The habit says that the bride parents host a party attended by the groom parents with a basket full of gifts such as clothes and other materials that are necessary on Henna Day. She added that despite the spread of the Turkish box inspired from the famous historical Ottoman series “Sultan’s women”, some Algerian families still use the traditional dish, made of white or pink Organza and covered by a piece of cloth called “El Haweek” full of jewelries, luxury clothes and expensive perfumes.
