Algerian designer Sawsan Boualsof announced launching her new collection called Priestess Kahina. Dihya or Kahina was a Berber warrior queen, religious and military leader who led indigenous resistance to the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb, the region then known as Numidia.
She said that most of her designs are inspired by the traditional costumes of Aures region in Algeria, and the Kingdom priestess Kahina "Scola" which currently represent Khenchela province, which is located in the heart of the Aures region of Algeria.
Boualsof explained, in an interview with Arabs Today, that most of the designs are inspired from Algerian heritage and she added some changes to fit with the current modern Algerian woman, saying it does not comply with designs as most of what she designs is inspired by over-active imagination ideas, pointing out that the quality of the clothes does not concern the woman but the important thing for them is the idea that can attract the attention of clients. In spite of all the ideas that are inspired by the heritage, but they often focus on modern touch.
The Algerian designer said that the designs met with great demand in Algeria and France, which are now displayed in "Karavanseray" in Paris, and earlier this year opened a special shop, and she is thinking of turning it into a special exhibition.
In regard with the accessories that accompany her designs, Boualsof revealed that she use the Iranian accessories that increase more aesthetic designs.
Boualsof studied medical treatment with massage, and after graduation she helped her father in the management of his company, specialized in the export and import of medical instruments and surgical supplies for two years. After her marriage, Boualsof decided to develop her hobby in the world of design, since she loves traditional fashion-related Algerian heritage, then she started her career in fashion and presented distinctive designs able to compete amid other well-known Algerian designers.
