Egypt hailed on Friday a resolution passed by the UN General Assembly to raise the Palestinian flag at the UN headquarters in New York.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry described the resolution as an additional move towards establishing a fully-independent Palestinian state with al Quds as its capital.
The ministry reiterated Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at settling the Palestinian issue and restoring the rights of the Palestinian people.
On Thursday, the United Nations has overwhelmingly voted in favor of raising a flag of Palestine at its headquarters in New York City in a symbolic move giving hope to Palestinians to gain full UN membership.
A resolution was adopted with 119 in favor, eight voting against - including Israel and the United States - and 45 abstentions.
