Al Azhar has strongly condemned Daesh's destruction of an ancient Roman temple in the Syrian city of Palmyra.
On Sunday Daesh blew up an ancient temple in the UNESCO-listed city of Palmyra.
In a statement Monday, Al Azhar said that the deliberate destruction of antiquities are only desperate attempts to obliterate the cultural and historical landmarks of Arabs and Muslims to serve colonial agendas.
Al Azhar, meanwhile, urged world countries to put urgent strategies to protect antiquities areas in the Arab region.
