Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh el Damati said the Egyptian government strongly supports the Grand Egyptian Museum project as being a huge cultural edifice that would help boost flourish tourism and the local economy in Egypt.
During his inauguration of the first international conference on King Tutankhamun, organized by the Grand Egyptian Museum, the minister said the new museum will be home to around 100,000 antiquities from various eras to be showcased in 15 halls. A special hall will be allocated to King Tutankhamun, he said.
The five-day conference is attended by 35 experts including 15 foreign Egyptologists and heads of museums in Torino in Italy, Berlin and Heidelsheim in Germany and Lynden in Holland.
The conference is held at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat district in Cairo.
