Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam said on Friday that his current visit to France aims at correcting misconceptions about Islam.
In statements to MENA, Allam blamed the misleading fatwas (religious opinions) for the wave of extremism, now hitting the world.
Allam said that his discussions with French officials tackled ways of fighting terrorism and terrorist groups, particularly Daesh, in Iraq and Syria.
He expressed his readiness to send a French copy of the fatwas issued by Darul Iftaa to France and establish a specialized center to correct misleading fatwas.
"France greatly depends on Al Azhar and Darul Iftaa to fight extremism in the world," he said.
Allam, meanwhile, called for strengthening cooperation between Egypt and France in the anti-terror war, urging French Muslims to effectively contribute to eradicating extremism in France.
He suggested also exchanging visits of Muslim scholars between Egypt and France to scientifically refute claims fanned by terrorist groups.
"Darul Iftaa is keen to be present in French mass media to post Europeans on the true image of Islam," he said.
