President of the Republicn Abdelaziz Bouteflika sent a condolence message to the family of Fatima Badjii, known as "Noura", 72, who passed away Sunday, on which he paid tribute to "the icon of the Algerian music both at the national and international levels."
"Algeria and the artistic circle have lost a star amongst the prioneers of authentic music, artist Fatima Badji, known as Noura, which honoured in more than fifty years the Algerian music," the condolence message says.
Nora's career "earned her respect and esteem given her commitment for the authentic music which she masterfully performed with a smooth and tuneful voice that was hers," the Head of State affirmed in his message.
"As the works perpetuate the memory of men, late Noura will certainly remain the icon of the Algerian music both at the national and international levels, and her memory will always be alive with that of those men and women who devoted their life for the preservation of heritage, through innovation and creativity," President Bouteflika added.
For President Bouteflika, "the extinction of this icon is a huge loss to the national art scene."
"In this painful, we can only express our deepest condolences to her family and all the artistic family and pray God Almighty to assist them and welcome the deceased in his vast paradise," the Head of State said.
