Egypt’s under-20 (U-20) national team kicked off their African Youth Championship campaign by defeating Lesotho 2-0 intheir Group A opener Sunday. The Pharaohs dominated the first half but could only make the breakthrough after the break. Central defender Ahmed Hegazy and promising forward Mohamed Salah struck in the second period to give Egypt all three points. Two minutes after the break, Ismaily’s Hegazy powered home an excellent header to open the scoring. Egypt intensified their pressure to seal the victory and fulfilled their target when Salah converted a penalty four minutes past the hour mark. Egypt are second in the group with three points, behind leaders Mali on goals scored after the latter beat South Africa 4-2 in the tournament’s opener. Diaa Al-Sayed’s team will meet Mali on Wednesday in their second group game while South Africa will play Lesotho.
