The much-anticipated transfer of Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o to Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala has stalled after the clubs failed to agree on a fee, Italian media reported Thursday. The 30-year-old Cameroonian was reported to have agreed to personal terms on Wednesday, but talks broke down Thursday with the clubs 6 million euros apart in their valuation of the player. "Right now, I'm not optimistic. There are a lot of items that need to be put in order. Nothing has been resolved," FIFA agent Peppino Tirri said, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport. Anzhi are reportedly willing to pay 24 million euros for Eto’o, but Inter are holding out for 30 million euros. Eto’o stands to become one of world sport’s highest earners if the deal goes through, with Italian media reporting a 60 million euro, three year deal on the table. Inter president Massimo Moratti said earlier this week that he had no choice but to sell Eto’o to balance the club’s books, and that Anzhi’s offer was too good to turn down.
