Real Madrid beat Manchester City 1-0 at home Wednesday on an own goal from Fernando to reach the Champions League final in which they will meet neighbours Atletico in Milan May 28.
The Whites scraped through on a tight 1-0 aggregate after a first-leg 0-0 draw in Manchester. The final will be a repeat of the 2014 event in which Real beat Atletico 4-1 after extra-time in Lisbon to claim their record 10th Champions trophy.
Atletico have never won the coveted trophy. This will be their third final. In addition to the 2014 defeat, they lost in 1974 to Bayern Munich in Brussels. Atletico finally took revenge on Bayern Tuesday by edging out the Bavarians on the away goals rule despite losing 2-1 in Munich to go through on a narrow 2-2 aggregate.
