Bahrain last night inched closer towards securing the Soccer Championship trophy in the First GCC Games (Bahrain 11), defeating the UAE 4-2 to book their berth in the final. In the semi-final clash, held at the National Stadium in Riffa, Bahrain took another significant step towards winning one of the main disciplines of the Games following a superb all-round show. Two second-half goals from rising striker Sami Al Hussaini and one each from Ismaeel Abdullatif and Fahad Al Hardan lifted the home side past their less-experienced Emirati side. The UAE, whose goals came from Fahad Salem and Ahmed Burman, are taking part in the Tournament with the under-19 squad. In the final, scheduled for tomorrow, Bahrain will take on Saudi Arabia who defeated Qatar 2-0 in the other semi-final played later yesterday.
