The Egypt Cup has been officially cancelled by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) interim board due to the Port Said disaster. Under the helm of Anwar Saleh, the EFA has stepped up its interest in bringing forward the start of next season's Egypt Cup as it has no time to hold this year's tournament. All Egyptian football competitions have been suspended since 1 February when over 70 people died and hundreds were injured at a match between Ahly and Masry at the Port Said Stadium. African Champions League matches have been held behind closed doors since the tragedy. The EFA interim board are doing their best to launch the new season of the Egyptian Premier league on its scheduled date of 24 August.
