The Egyptian football Association (EFA) caretaking board has proposed a new date for the Egypt Cup after the interior ministry refused to secure the tournament on Sunday. "The EFA is determined to hold Egypt's Cup and will continue negotiations with both the interior ministry and the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces," the EFA said in a statement on its official website after a meeting of the caretaking board headed by Anwar Saleh. All Egyptian football activities have been suspended since 1 February when tens were murdered and hundreds injured after clashes at the Port Said Stadium. The Egyptian Premier League season was cancelled while the home continental competition matches have been held behind closed doors since the tragedy. The interim board is doing its best to ensure that the Egypt Cup goes ahead especially as most of Egypt's clubs are suffering from lack of funds. They also suggested a friendly tournament instead of the domestic league but security authorities and some big clubs, including Ahly and Zamalek, rejected the idea. "The new season of Egyptian league will start on 24 August while the date of Egypt Super Cup match will be determined after the round 16 of the African champions league," added the EFA statement. Egyptian Super Cup will be played between Ahly, league title holder, and the heroes of the last Egypt's Cup, ENPPI.
