Ahly right winger Ahmed Fathi has undergone knee surgery to repair a damaged cartilage. “Fathi will leave the hospital on Wednesday and he needs at least a six-week break,” Ahly's Dr Ehab Ali was quoted as saying on the club’s official website. The 27-year-old will travel to Qatar next week for rehabilitation after receiving an invitation from the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence. The Ahly squad visited their teammate after Wednesday’s training session. The Cairo giants are still waiting for the green light from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to hold their African Champions League match against Ethiopian Coffee on Sunday. If the match is cancelled due to security concerns the club faces a three-year ban from the competition.
