Kuwait will host the 23rd edition of the Gulf Cup of Nations, Kuwait Football Association (KFA) Secretary General Saho Al-Saho told KUNA on Tuesday.
Al-Saho, also member of the Gulf Cup of Nations Standing Committee for Secretaries General, said the latter had agreed by consensus, including approval by Secretary General of the Iraq Football Association Tareq Ahmad, on relocating the tournament from Iraq to Kuwait, to be held in December 2015 or January 2016.
In view of the developments in Iraq, the Committee decided in its meeting held in Riyadh earlier today to relocate the tournament to Kuwait, he said.
A recommendation will be submitted to the chiefs of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) football associations, also to be held in Riyadh in November, for endorsement, Al-Saho added, urging collaboration of efforts by all Kuwaiti institutions to make the championship a success.
