OHI have joined hands with the Oman Golf Committee (OGC) as the principal sponsor of the 2017 Oman Opens to be held at Ghala Golf Club on January 27 and 28. For the 2017 edition, the event will be joined by the Oman Ladies Open and the Oman Junior Open. This annual championship is the premier golf event in Oman, with the winner earning the title “The Oman Champion of Golf 2017”.
The Chairman of the Oman Golf Committee, Mundhir Al Barwani noted: “2017 is going to be a great year for golf in Oman and this has only been made possible with the kind support from our major partners. We are really pleased to announce that OHI is the title sponsor for the 2017 Oman Opens and we are both focused on building a long-term relationship that will grow the game of golf in Oman.”
Commenting on the partnership with OGC, Eihab Al Saleh, CEO of the OHI Group, noted: “We have been a strong supporter of golf for many years now having sponsored the OHI Golf Open for several years. We are now proud to be associated with OGC to become the principal sponsor of Oman’s most prestigious event as the obvious next step.
"Golf is a rapidly growing sport in the country and we want to encourage and support the efforts of the Oman Golf Committee who are investing heavily in the game through youth development programmes.”
The OHI Oman Open tournaments will have added excitement in 2017 with the launch of the new Oman Order of Merit, which will carry the largest weighting of points and become the first “Oman Golf Major”.
The tournament is expected to attract an international field of the best amateur golfers from Oman and across the region. Previously, the event has drawn players from throughout the region, with the 2016 winner coming from Bahrain.
This year’s event will carry enhanced points for the 2017 Order of Merit which runs throughout the year with the top 15 places from each club gaining an invitation into the 2018 OHI Oman Amateur Open.
