Frank Nuttall has quit as manager of Kenyan champions Gor Mahia to join fellow Scot Alex McLeish at Egyptian giants Zamalek as assistant coach, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old Nuttall, who led Gor Mahia to two national league titles in 2014 and 2015, is reported to have tendered his resignation letter on Tuesday, citing unfulfilled financial promises with the cash-strapped Kenyan club.
He was asked to take a 50 percent pay cut in February, despite having led the club to the 2015 Premier League title without suffering a single defeat.
But Gor Mahia have had a poor start to the new season.
They have gone four matches without a win in the league, and were dumped out of the African Champions League in the preliminary round by Madagascar champions CNaPS Sport last month.
Nuttall is set to reunite with compatriot McLeish, who was appointed manager of Cairo club Zamalek last month.
He served as a member of McLeish's backroom coaching staff during his time as manager of 54-time Scottish champions Rangers in 2004.
Nuttall also had stints as the assistant coach of the China national team and Al Nasr of the United Arab Emirates.
