Sultan, son of UAE ace bowler Mohammad Khalifa Al Qubaisi, won the Under-20 (youth) bowling title of the ongoing 16th Armed Forces Officers Club (Afoc) Ramada Festival on Thursday night. Qubaisi overcame challenges from Lebanese Wayel Al Reef to emerge winner with an average of 189.3 against his opponent’s 186. UAE’s Suhail Al Tamimi finished third followed by UAE lady bowler Kholood Mustafa in fourth place and Ali Al Rashidi in fifth place. The open competition will commence on Saturday with the participation of the country’s best-known bowlers including Mohammad Al Qubaisi, president of the UAE Bowling Federation (UAEBF) and the winner of the 1988 World Cup, Asian former champion Shaker Ali, Sayed Ebrahim, Mahmoud Al Attar, Nayef Ogab, Jissain Al Suwaidi, Harib Al Mansouri and others. “The participation of Mohammad Al Qubaisi, president of the UAEBF, will add to the importance of the competition not only because of his designation at the top of the Federation but also his current status as one of the best bowlers of the region,” said Ahmad Khamis Al Ali, supervisor of the bowling competition. Meanwhile, National Drilling Company registered the biggest victory so far in the men’s five-a-side football tournament, trouncing Tawazun 12-0 while the General Directorate of Central Operations beat We Are All UAE society 4-0, Esnad defeated Jal 3-0 and International Golden Group blanked SME 3-0. gulftoday
