The World Women's Bowling Championships began Sunday at Zayed Sports City in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and other Emirati and international officials.
The tournament is being organised by World Bowling, the international governing body of the sport of bowling, and will continue till 14 December under the sponsorship of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
Female bowlers from 30 countries will compete for top honours during the event which continues till 14 December.
H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed noted that Abu Dhabi's hosting of international sports events reflects the huge support extended by the country's wise leadership to sports.
H.H. Sheikh Nahyan welcomed the international teams, and thanked H.H. Sheikha Fatima for sportswomen by hosting international events to enable them to gain experience.
Mohammed Khalifa Al Qubaisi, President of Emirates Bowling Federation, Kevin Dornberger, President of World Bowling, and a number of Emirati officials attended the opening of the tournament yesterday.
Al Qubaisi noted that Abu Dhabi hosted the World Bowling Men's World Championships earlier this year.
