Swiss driver Sebastien Buemi won the first Formula E race to be staged in South America on Saturday, edging out Brazilian duo Nelson Piquet junior and Lucas di Grassi at Punta del Este on Uruguay's Atlantic coast.
Di Grassi's performance meant he stayed in top spot in the overall standings after three rounds.
The fourth round will take place on January 10 at Buenos Aires.
