Austria's Anna Fenninger won the giant slalom at the Swedish venue of Are on Thursday for her sixth World Cup victory of the season. The win also allowed the Sochi Olympics silver medallist in the discipline to cut the deficit on overall World Cup leader, Maria Hoefl-Riesch to under 100 points. Hoefl-Riesch was only 21st on Thursday and is just 67 points ahead of Fenninger with six rounds of the championship left. Fenninger, 24, who was a gold medallist in the Olympic Super-G last month, won by 0.21sec from France's Anemone Marmottan who reached her first podium. "I always see myself as the outsider," said Fenninger. "Maria has raced two more events than me (slalom) where she gained 100 points each time. "I am always behind but I just try to ski my best and if that continues it could get very exciting." Austria's Eva-Maria Brem and Lara Gut of Switzerland shared third place at 0.39sec off the lead.
