Kvitfjell - Arab Today

Kjetil Jansrud of Norway continued his fine run of recent form by winning the men's alpine skiing World Cup super-G race in Kvitfjell, Norway on Sunday. The 28-year-old Olympic champion in the discipline made it two wins in three days following his joint first finish with Austria's Georg Streitberger in a downhill on Friday. Jansrud took the super-G honours ahead of Swizerland's Patrick Kueng and downhill Olympic champion Matthias Mayer of Austria, who collected his second podium finish in two days having entered it without ever finishing in the top three in World Cup racing. It was his third career win on the World Cup circuit -- all three coming at home in Norway -- and comes hard on the heels of a fine display at Sochi where he won gold in the super-G and bronze in the downhill. There was some satisfaction also for another Norwegian in the shape of Aksel Lund Svindal as his fourth place in the Kvitfjell super-G allowed him to increase his lead over Austrian Marcel Hirscher in the overall World Cup standings to 77 points. The points he collected also assured him of winning the World Cup in the super-G category to go with the downhill crystal globe he bagged on Friday. Only six races remain of the World Cup season, but four (two slaloms and two giant slaloms) of them are favourable to overall title-holder Hirscher, who did not ski in Norway. "The globes for the super-G and the downhill are two very good things to have achieved and that suits me fine," Svindal said, who won the overall World Cup previously in 2007 and 2009. "But it would have been better to have won the super-G title with a win today "My aim had been for a top three placing, and I didn't quite manage that." Source: AFP
