Daniel Sturridge taken to hospital

Chelsea footballer Daniel Sturridge - named in the British Olympic team to face the UAE this week - is being tested for suspected meningitis, it has emerged. The 22-year-old is believed to have taken ill at the weekend, before being admitted to hospital for tests. More details on the former Manchester City striker are expected at a press conference from Chelsea later today. Doctors reportedly suspect Sturridge may be suffering from the viral strain of the disease, which can be overcome without the need for medical treatment. But the news will put a question mark over his potential involvement in the already-troubled Men\'s GB Olympic football squad, which is due to meet next week. Coach Stuart Pearce can select a replacement up until July 25, should the Chelsea star be forced to pull out of the Games, with Scotland and Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes expected to be in the frame as his replacement.
