Interior Ministry Spokesman Major General Hani Abdel Latif said that the ministry has raised security alert to the utmost level in a bid to protect the public on Thursday amid threats to intimidate citizens on the occasion marking the first anniversary of dispersing Nahda and Rabaa protest camps.
In statements to MENA, he added that August 14 also marks the commemoration of the death of 114 policemen who were killed in the battle against terrorism during the dispersal operation.
He asserted that the security situation now in Egypt is good in general. The security agencies have dealt heavy blows to terrorism in the past period, he pointed out, adding that security men are working to uproot terrorism from Egypt.
He added that security men have thwarted 20 terrorist operations over the past two months. Also up to 38 terrorist cells were arrested and large quantities of weapons and ammunition were seized, he added.
