Egyptian parliamentarian Sharif Fakhry stressed that the Egyptian parliament has no authority to prevent mobile operators from implementing their latest decision to increase their prices, saying that it is the responsibility of the government.
He added that both Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority were the bodies that have authority to prevent the implementation of such a decision, saying that they had to intervene before making the decision to prevent or at least justify the visit.
Regarding the parliamentary role to face such a decision, the Egyptian parliamentarian said that when the three companies took the decision, the House of Representatives was not in session, so it could not move against it.
He said that the Egyptian citizen is the only one who bears the repercussions of the economic reform adopted by the Egyptian government, saying that parliamentarians resent their accusation of not feeling citizens or living on another planet, stressing: This is not true, the pulse of the street reaches us and we know that the citizen does not face less than suffering.
He revealed that the budget of Egypt’s parliament witnessed notable increase by over 150 million EGP, blaming the government for the decline of the financial budget allocated for important sectors in the country, including health and education. He also criticized the performance of Egypt’s parliament for not giving priority to the major issues of the Egyptian citizen.
He stressed that the Egyptian citizens face increasing problems on both social and economic levels, while the government and other executive officials focus on executing specific agendas that are not related to the life of the Egyptian people. He stressed that the government failed to achieve any progress regarding the economic position of the Egyptian people.
The Egyptian parliamentarian praised the performance of the government in dealing with the foreign relation with the other countries, saying that the Egyptian government managed to achieve notable success to restore relations with the U.S and to impose its vision in a number of international issues, including the Syrian crisis, Yemeni conflict and Iraqi developments.
However, he said, the government failed to achieve the same regarding the economic issue, blaming the government for the current economic problems facing the Egyptian citizens during the current period. He warned of the repercussions of the current situation, saying that the government should work seriously to find serious solutions for the current crisis.
