Head of the Information and Communication Office of Tunisian Interior Ministry Yasser Mosbah revealed that Oqba ibn Nafi Battalion poses serious threat against the western area of Tunisia, stressing the existence of a number of Algerian extremist leaders there. He added that the extremist group attempts to control the border area with Algeria.
He added, in a statement to “Arabs Today”, “Tunisian security managed to dissolve “Jund Al Khilafa” extremist group in the city of Kairouan, saying that the security forces work to monitor the movements of extremist elements that work to launch surprise terrorist attacks in different areas of the country. He added that the threat of extremism is not limited to Tunisia, while extends to the other countries in all over the world.
He revealed that the Tunisian authorities give priority to the cases related to extremism, while he warned that the cases of extremism are not the only cases attracting the public attention. He said, “We have a number of other criminal phenomena that need more attention during the coming period, including human trafficking and smuggling of antiquities.”
On the other hand, the Tunisian official underlined the efforts exerted by his ministry to develop the ways of communication with media channels and newspapers. He revealed that they work currently to develop a security network to provide security information to the journalists and media channels. He stressed their keenness to contact with the media, praising its role to support their efforts to confront the current security threats facing the country.
He added, National Guard Administration received recently three helicopters, saying that they would be a turning point in the efforts aiming to combat extremism. He stressed the importance of the results they achieved in the fields of combating terrorism will support the security to resume their role during the coming period to eliminate the terrorist groups existed in the country.
