Four hideouts used by militants were destroyed by an Algerian army detachment at a counterterrorism search and combing operation on Wednesday in the eastern province of Jijel, the Ministry of National Defense said Thursday in a statement carried by state news agency APS.
"As part of the fight against terrorism and in a search and combing operation, a detachment of the People's National Army has destroyed, on 7 December 2016 in Jijel (5th military district), four terrorist hiding places, containing quantities of foodstuffs and beddings," the statement said.
In addition, army detachments "arrested in separate operations, in Tamanrasset and In-Guezzam (6th military district), six smugglers in possession of 1,440 liters of fuel, three metal detectors, a satellite phone and 13,868 psychotropic tablets." "National Gendarmerie units, in operations against smuggling and organized crime, seized a large quantity of tobacco amounting to 262 quintals in Biskra and El-Oued (4th military district)," according to the statement.
