The rapid and uneven architectural growth of the world's "megacities" will be under the spotlight this fall thanks to a new exhibition at MoMA.
"Uneven Growth: Tactical Urbanisms for Expanding Megacities" examines the architectural possibilities open to Hong Kong, Istanbul, Lagos, Mumbai, New York, and Rio de Janeiro.
The show is the result of a 14-month initiative to explore how "bottom-up" approaches to everyday urbanism can benefit the world's biggest metropolises.
Dubbed "tactical urbanism," the method is a pragmatic movement that applies to designers, performing "guerrilla" interventions of short-term change and seeking to provoke or stimulate the political process of urban development.
The exhibition features design visions of each city, including drawings, renderings, animations, and videos produced by local and international architecture and urbanism experts.
MoMA has also launched a user-generated blog showcasing examples of tactical urbanism in each of the six cities.
"Uneven Growth" runs from November 22 through May 10, 2015.
