Viterbo’s beautiful Piazza San Lorenzo hosts the sixth season of the Tuscia Operafestival, from July 13 to August 18. With the suggestive backdrop of Palazzo dei Papi (Papal Palace), summer in the historical region of Tuscia will be rich with big dates and big names, the likes of which include Lina Wertmuller and Raffaele Paganini. Wertmuller’s production of “Gian Burrasca” will take the stage on August 5, while a performance from the Italian version of “Dancing with the Stars” (Ballando con le stelle) will show on August 3. The Festival comprises 15 outstanding events, from opera and dance to concerts by international musicians filling the programme. Much-awaited is an inaugural comic opera (the only one of its kind by Puccini) \"Gianni Schicchi,\" directed by Alfonso Antoniozzi. Many of the new events and productions during the Festival have been organized by Viterbo Artemusica, and the Festival of the Baroque, a historical cultural event, is organized by the Province Viterbo. All are under the artistic and musical direction of Maestro Stefano Vignati. Much-anticipated are concerts by Europa Galante and Ramin Bahrami. A large part of the festival is devoted to theatre and dance, with the St. Petersburg Ballet performing Swan Lake on July 18, and the Ballet of the South presenting Carmen on August 1.
