The new building of Al-Khalifia Library will open in Muharraq on Wednesday.
Manama - BNA

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the new building of Al-Khalifia Library will open in Muharraq on Wednesday.
The project has been recently completed by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) under the sponsorship of the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK). The library is considered as one of the oldest in Bahrain, dating back to 1954.
The project is in line with BACA's strategy in giving a special care to old cultural buildings in Bahrain given their role in projecting the kingdom's cultural movement. The library offers a rich collection of books and valuable publications, being the dividend of an initiative launched by BACA last year asking the public to submit the books they possess and which carry the stamp of Al-Khalifia Library. The move reflects the authority's keenness to engage the public in preserving the civilisational and cultural heritage of Bahrain.
The library also contains a number of publications of BACA and an outstanding collection offered by the family of late Mohammed Al-Banki. This collection consists of a large number of books bought by Al-Banki for his personal library.
Al-Khalifia Library project was designed by the Dutch architecture company SeARCH BV in cooperation with Bahraini architecture company PAD. It lies at the heart of old Muharraq town
The new building is made up of three floors with balconies. The building also consists of a reading hall, a research centre, a computer lab and offices.
