Google's driverless car London - Arabstoday Google's revolutionary self-driving car could be on our streets much sooner than previously imagined, after US electric car firm Tesla expressed an interest in the vehicles, AOL Cars reports. Elon Musk, co-founder of Tesla, has revealed talks with Google over the self-driving technology that is currently in development. "I like the word autopilot more than I like the word self-driving," Musk told Bloomberg. "Self-driving sounds like it's going to do something you don't want it to do." Musk is keen to re-brand and even cut down the costs on a similar model, by replacing the Google car's expensive sensors with a more cost effective optical system. Anthony Levandowski, project manager for the Google project predicted that self-drive technology should be on the streets within five years. The idea behind such technology is to not only make driving more convenient, but also safer. Cars equipped with self-driving systems can react to certain situations and prevent a crash, for example. Google has launched self-driving projects over the last couple of years. Its test fleet consists of Toyota Prius', Audi TTs and Lexus RX450hs equipped with the self-driving technology.
