Rabat Résonances Festival
Rabat - Arab Today

Rabat will host yet another cultural festival. The first annual Rabat Résonances, a meeting place for intercultural dialogue, will take place in the city April 5 to 11.

For its first edition, Rabat Résonances has chosen the title “Cultural diversity in the Euro-Afro-Mediterranean space”, a choice that will be manifested in an array of artistic presence in the occasion.

The festival will serve as a platform for cultural exchanges between Europe and Africa, as the two continents are excepted to set aside their differences to leave room for artistic creation.

Gnawa Fusion, Moroccan singer Sophia Charai, singer and multi-instrumentalist Haroun Teboul, trio Cavalcade, and François Salque and Pierre Fouchenneret will be present during the event to share their art with the public.

The festival will also pay tribute to one of the masters of contemporary calligraphy, the Iraqi artist Ghani Alani, who has been named the festival’s guest of honor.

Alani has advocated for the foregathering of cultures and conceives calligraphy as an art that combines tradition and modernity. His involvement with calligraphy earned him the title of Unesco-Sharjah Prize Laureate in 2009 for Arab Culture.

Rabat Résonances will also offer workshops administered by the artists. These workshops will center around percussion instruments with Saïd Alami, singing with Sophia Charai, and fashion with French designer of Malian origin Mossi Traoré.

The festival will put forward conferences given by professionals including the Deputy Director of the National Library, Abdelati Lahlou, the business lawyer Abdelatif Laamrani, and the head of the UNESCO-Mali cultural program, Ali Daou, to discuss the political and economic aspects of art and culture.

With the aim of democratizing access to culture and art, these conferences and workshops will be free and open to all.

Resonances festival is the result of a collaboration between the co-organizers Melting-Culture (France) and Art Louane (Morocco) with partnerships with the organizations Totem, management agency of classical artists, French WEVO’s Academics, along with artistic structures and Moroccan associations.

Résonances aims to accommodate even more international artists in the years to come.
