In her first young adult novel “Tears in the Sand” (published by Trafford Publishing), author Dina Andrews tells the touching story of two children from warring countries who form a powerful friendship. “Tears in the Sand” will be part of the New Title Showcase at the 2014 London Book Fair, which is attended yearly by book buyers, publishers, librarians and more every year. During the terror of World War II, German forces occupy the island of Jersey, only 12 miles off the coast of Normandy, France. The residents of Jersey despise the Germans who have taken over, particularly those overseeing the forced labor camp located on the small island. As a young boy, Richard Le Miere watches the camp prisoners shuffle past him every day on their way home from school. Richard however, soon befriends one of the Polish prisoners of war, a boy named Alex. The two speak through the camp fence and share with each other their thoughts, troubles and tribulations, forging a bond made possible only by the war. As they talk, Richard discovers Alex’s father has died and gives him a teddy bear to help him cope – but it’s not enough. Alex’s body has been weakened from hard labor, diphtheria and lack of food. He will not survive unless Richard does something unthinkable – help Alex escape. Will his daring plan work, or will he too end up a prisoner of the Germans? Filled with vivid historical detail, “Tears in the Sand” is a moving portrait of compassion, friendship and hope in the face of the tragedy of war. Source: PRWEB
