FutureWord Publishing held back the official release of Mary Ashmore Scobey’s self-improvement/ inspirational book, The Trials and Triumphs of Growing Older, until all of the bookstores could be infiltrated with the title. After all, supply must meet demand. It’s a business fact. Ironically, the demand came faster than the supply. In spite of keeping her profile low key, the author’s, family, friends, seniors and Christian communities as well as magazines and newspapers fired up more than enough inspiration to launch the 88 year-old author into the entertainment world without firepower from publicists. More interests and intrigue lies with the life of the author. Mary’s book is based, in part, on events in her senior years.
Jo McDivitt, Editor of Today's Mississippi Woman had this to say about Mary:
“Mary A. Scobey is what you would readily term ‘a renaissance woman.’ She is an octogenarian who is still an artist, poet, writer, world traveler, grandmother and employed counselor. As time flies, most folks decide it is time to 'get old' and begin to take on the qualities and habits associated with aging. Mary's heart and mind reflect the opposite. She has reversed the normal process by keeping the wheels of her mind turning and staying active. Her creativity shines through painting, writing and traveling.”
Mary Ashmore Scobey was born in Lafayette County, Mississippi and proudly admits to having reached the stage of octogenarian. She received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Mississippi with majors in French and English. Mary then began a career of teaching and has been employed by the American Intercultural Student Exchange for the past 32 years. She and her husband reside in Cordova, Tennessee and have two children.
Mary will be appearing at a booksigning event this Saturday, July 12th from 2-4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Booksellers Wolfchase Galleria, 2774 North Germantown Parkway in Memphis, TN.
