Author Terrence LeRoy Baker gives a glimpse into the lives of prostitutes and pimps with his new novel, “A Look in the Mirror” (published by AuthorHouse).
The story follows Kassandra, a girl whose mother is a crack addict and a prostitute. Kassandra looks up to her mother and eventually follows in her footsteps, walking the streets at night and leaving her child unattended. Eventually, she comes into contact with a pimp named Papa Bear. As Kassandra looks to gain a higher status with Papa Bear, she ultimately has to choose between a life of abuse, drugs and seedy motels or the child she abandoned.
“I feel this will help the girls who glamorize about this lifestyle,” Baker says. “They can see firsthand what they will deal with and how to avoid coming across pimps in the future.”
Baker feels this book will update readers who might still have a perception of pimps and prostitutes largely based around a 1970s point of view of pimps with large hats, canes and fur coats. He hopes this book will correct misperceptions of life on the streets.
