Eric Bana will star alongside Ricky Gervais in Special Correspondents, a comedy-drama film Gervais wrote and plans to direct, producers announced Friday.
Principal photography is to begin in Vancouver and New York City this spring.
Bana will play a struggling radio journalist whose arrogance and decadent lifestyle have hindered his career.
"With his job on the line, he fakes front-line war reports from the comfort of his hideout above a Spanish restaurant in the heart of Manhattan," a synopsis said.
Gervais' on-screen role was not disclosed.
The film is a co-production between Bron Studios and Unanimous Entertainment, in association with Creative Wealth Media Finance. Unanimous' Chris Coen, Bron's Aaron L. Gilbert, and Manuel Munz will produce the movie. Creative Wealth's Jason Cloth and Larry Sanisky are executive producers.
Gervais is best known for his work on the celebrated small-screen comedy series Derek, Extras and The Office.
Bana's film credits include Lone Survivor, Star Trek, The Other Boleyn Girl, Hulk and Munich.
