Captain Fantastic announced several new cast members Monday.
Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club), Kathryn Hahn (Bad Words), Missi Pyle (Gone Girl) and Erin Moriarty (True Detective) will star alongside Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) in the Matt Ross-directed film. Entertainment One acquired the international rights to the comedy drama this week.
Mortensen portrays an idealistic father who immerses his six children in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. He spends his days teaching them combat and survival skills, and homeschools them in a classical education. The character struggles to adjust when he is forced to leave his Walden behind and finds himself confronted by the modern world.
"This is a project we all fell in love with and was voted best script of 2014 by our distribution teams on the ground," Entertainment One President Harold van Lier said in a statement. "It is a very original story, both funny and deeply emotional and a wonderful role for Viggo. I don't think we have read anything like it since Little Miss Sunshine, but this is altogether very different."
Captain Fantastic has not set a release date. Mortensen will star in The Two Faces of January, Jauja and Far From Men later this year.
